Learning to Dive, Without the Crowd

Why our own villa pool makes a better first classroom than a busy dive centre — and where the training still has to happen in the sea.

Most people's first scuba lesson happens in a public pool, in a group, on somebody else's schedule. It works, but it's rarely calm — and calm is most of what a nervous first-timer actually needs.

Our own villa pool changes that: one instructor, one student, no queue for the next skill station — and no need for guests to have a pool at their own accommodation. It only covers the confined-water phase of a proper certification, though — the open-water dives still happen at sea, exactly as PADI standards require.
